The Fourth SOS Beer-a-thon is happening at the Zami house, 807 Laurel Street (across from the school sports field), 6-9pm, Saturday the 17th of October (rain or shine). The Zami house is a student housing co-op and the kind folk there are letting us use their huge patio.

Beer-a-thon = sponsored beer drinking!

All you have to do is find a few people who will agree to make a donation to SOS for every beer you drink during the 3 hour event. You drink for free; your sponsors donate to SOS. The more you drink, the more money we raise!

Actually, you don't have to drink a lot: you can indicate on the sponsor form that you'll only drink maybe 3 or 4 beers (fill in the maximum #) and your sponsors can sign up for a larger dollar amount per beer, knowing in advance how much they're committed to donate.

You get your sponsors to sign up on the sponsor form (see below) and you collect the money from them later.

When you're hustling sponsors, you get to explain how wonderful needle exchange and harm reduction and SOS are - and you're building community support.

We'll have kegs of beer, food (vegetarian), good people . . . We try to have two kinds of beer available: a low alcohol one for volume drinkers, and a locally brewed organic ale for the rest of us. We're getting a seriously generous discount from Alec at Uncommon Brewers on some of his Golden State Pale. If you've been to a beer-a-thon before, you'll recognise the spacy clear sphere that you pressurize (slightly) with a bike pump.

When you leave, you get a tab from the bartender that shows how many beers you drank to show to your sponsors when you go to collect the money.

---------------------------------------------------

Participation is open to SOS volunteers and supporters, Zami house people and good friends. Guests and friends and supporters can just come by and drink beers at $2 each.

When you decide you're participating and you've signed up a few sponsors, please let us know: we're trying to get an idea of how many people are coming and how much beer and food we need.

In the "How it works" page, you'll see we have a minimum sponsorship amount. If you're having trouble making the minimum, give us a call. Maybe we can find you more sponsors. We're actually very flexible about this. We're just trying to eliminate someone who thinks that getting a couple of 10ยข sponsors means almost free beer.

Please make a copy of your sponsor form: we need you to give us one copy at the start of the event, and you need one when you go to collect from your sponsors.

Try if you can to arrange a ride home so you don't have to drive. If that's a problem, contact us - we'll try to help.

---------------------------------------------------

We also need help with running the show. Contact us if you can help with the food, setting up and cleanup, rides . . .

---------------------------------------------------

We're looking for beer and food donations: all tax deductible. If you know someone who'll give a discount on a keg . . .
